The Pirate Party on the Beach returns to the Dairy Queen Grill & Chill 17th Street Park at the Virginia Beach oceanfront Saturday-Sunday, May 16-17, for two rollicking days of music, mayhem, and more! This family-friendly event features activities designed to bring out the “pirate” in everyone. Costume contests, games, a treasure hunt, pirate re-enactors, and movie on the beach all combine to celebrate those scallywags we all wish we could be: pirates.
Over 80 parade units make their way down Atlantic Avenue in a joyous celebration of the holiday season.Giant balloons, marching bands, lighted floats, equestrian units, fire trucks, performing dance groups, motorcycles, and more join forces to present a dazzling and entertaining night of fun for all ages!
The State Farm FunkFest is the heart and soul of this weekend event, featuring music generated over the years by influential legends such as James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone, George Clinton, and The Ohio Players. Funk is an American musical style that originated in the mid-to late-1960’s when African-American musicians blended soul music, soulful jazz, and R&B into a rhythmic, danceable new form of music. Funk brings a strong rhythmic groove of electric bass and drums to the foreground.
The Virginia Aquarium Chalk the Walk ARTsplosion is where hundreds of artists and “wanna-be artists” gather to turn the boardwalk into an impromptu canvas of color! Artist registration takes place on the boardwalk at 17th Street, and chalk art is displayed for two blocks.
At Chalk the Walk, participants draw four by four foot chalk drawings. A theme guides artists each year. All Chalk the Walk participants are encouraged to incorporate the theme in their work!
The Crab is King at this one-of-a-kind event that’s fun for the whole family!
The Mid-Atlantic Hermit Crab Challenge was named to TripAdvisor.com's 2010 list of the Wackiest Summer Events in America and to the New York Daily News 2012 list of the top 10 Wackiest Festivals in the WORLD. In 2012, a film crew from the popular BBC children’s show “All Over the Place,” broadcast in Scotland, filmed the event.
Registration begins at 9:30am and all participants must be registered by NOON in order to race.
Sandstock – A Tribute to Rock & Roll, is a beach-inspired variation on “Woodstock.” National and regional tribute artists who cover performers from The Who to Van Halen to Led Zeppelin will crank out hit after hit on two beach stages at the Virginia Beach oceanfront!
All performances, which are free to the public, will be held on “dueling” stages on the beach at 24th Street, adjacent to the 24th Street Park.
For two days, Virginia Beach celebrates the sights and sounds of the Latin experience. Hardee’s Latin Fest, Friday-Saturday, June 26-27, 2015, possesses the key ingredients of good food, family participation, and first-rate Latin music.
