Virginia Beach National Chess Day Festival

This fun, outdoor public event in the urban heart of Town Center is designed to celebrate National Chess Day.

Features include a multi-section tournament (with sections for both experienced and beginning players), free chess lessons, and a simultaneous exhibition by Virginia State champions.

Schedule of Events

8:00am-9:00am, On-site registration for the chess tournament

9:00am-9:30am, New player orientation

9:30am-3:45pm, Chess Tournament – 4 games for everyone entered

4:00pm-4:30pm, Awards Ceremony

5:00pm-7:00pm, Simultaneous Exhibition

Chess Tournament

Tournament format: 4 Round Swiss System (Not a knock-out; everyone will play four games).

Sections

Each section is a tournament. You will only play those in your section.

Not rated: Means it is not a USCF tournament. USCF membership not required.

K-5 not rated

K-12 not rated

Open not rated (adults only)

Rated: Means the event will be submitted to the SSCF for rating. You must have a USCF membership to play in this section. USCF memberships may be purchased on site.

Open rated (adults and advanced scholastic)

Simultaneous Exhibition

Play against one of two Virginia Champions.

There is a registration fee for participants. The event is free for spectators.
