The World Music Drum Festival features ground-breaking percussionists who explore with audiences a world of sound in instruments of all timbres, tones, and sizes, with unrivalled showmanship and an adventurous soul!

Host Hotel:

Co-produced by the Virginia Arts Festival and BeachEvents, the World Music Drum Festival features virtuoso international percussion ensembles showcasing a range of cultural genres including jazz, rock, world (Afro-Cuban), African, Kodo, American Indian, and classical.  A drum circle on the beach, drumline displays by college bands, and performances by the young drummers of the Virginia Art Festival’s Rhythm Project round out the event.  All performances are free to the public.

3:15pm-4:15pm, Old Dominion University Percussion Ensemble

4:15pm-4:30pm, Solo Competition Winner (Marimba)

4:30pm-5:30pm, Drumming Circle led by Matt Savage

5:30pm-5:45pm, Governor’s School for the Arts African Drummers

5:45pm-6:45pm, Drumming Circle led by Tommy Igoe

6:45pm-7:00pm, Solo Competition Winner (Drum Set)

7:00pm-7:30pm, Awards Ceremony

8:00pm-10:00pm, Tommy Igoe and the Virginia Arts Festival Big Band
