Salute to Summer
Friday-Sunday, May 27-29, 2011
Virginia Beach Oceanfront
May 21, 2011
Virginia Beach, Virginia – Great music, good food, warm sunshine, and cool waves…it’s what you love about summers at the Virginia Beach oceanfront! Experience it all at Salute to Summer, May 27-29, 2011, where over 15 bands on 3 stages over 3 days will rock the Virginia Beach resort with free concerts!
Confederate Railroad, Sarah Darling, POCO, Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers, Little Texas, Trevor Hall, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and more will thrill audiences over the weekend with a wide variety of country, blues, and rock favorites.
Confederate Railroad first rolled onto the country music scene in the early 90’s with its unique style and sound. Winning the Academy of Country Music’s Best New Group Award in 1993, Confederate Railroad’s music runs from rowdy country to raw emotion. Confederate Railroad will be featured on Friday, May 27, from 9:30pm-11:00pm, at 17th Street Park
Little Texas, America’s favorite rockin’ country band, will take the stage on Sunday, May 29, from 9:30pm-11:00pm, at 17th Street Park. Little Texas was conceived in Nashville, Tennessee, by a handful of guys in their early 20’s who were willing to do just about anything to bring their brand of country to the forefront of the music industry. Their first radio release, “Some Guys Have All the Love,” became a top-ten hit. The multi-platinum band’s four original members are still touring and bringing their fans what they do best. “The four of us appreciate each other and still have a ball on stage,” says drummer Del Gray of the band’s chemistry on stage after all this time. “There is a comfort level that happens to us when we play together that can only happen with 20 years of experience!”
This free event also includes the “Heroes Walk” banners on display from 17th to 31st Streets. These banners contain original essays written by local high school honors students that can be read by passers-by. Each describes one of the military conflicts the United States has been involved with throughout history. Covering such conflicts as the Battle of Vicksburg, Vietnam War, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, they help to remind us of the price that has been paid and is still being paid today by the United States military.
Salute to Summer is free and open to the public.
