VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - With a field of about 300 participants, it is one of the biggest sporting events of the summer in Virginia Beach - at least to those who enter it.

Despite the muggy weather at the Oceanfront Saturday, the Mid-Atlantic Hermit Crab Challenge brought out the crowd.

 With the sound of 'One, two. three. Honkkk!' they were off and running, or crawling. Hermit crabs raced for top honors in the Crustacean 500.
